Who we are
Home DIY Dan is Dan Belair's DIY channel and website (homediydan.com). This policy covers this website and the tools Home DIY Dan uses to publish and improve its own videos.
What this website collects
- Email sign-ups. If you sign up for a free download or updates, your email address is stored with our email provider, MailerLite, and used only to send what you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Affiliate links. Some product links are affiliate links (for example Amazon Associates and partners tracked through Impact.com). Every page loads Impact.com's affiliate script, which turns links to some brands into affiliate links and records when those links are shown or clicked. These companies may set cookies to credit a purchase. We do not receive your personal details from them.
- Videos and thumbnails. Video thumbnails load from YouTube's image servers. A video player loads only when you press play, using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode; from then on YouTube's own terms and Google's privacy policy apply.
- Cookies on this site. If you close a sign-up pop-up, a small cookie remembers that for 30 days so it does not show again. Apart from the affiliate cookies above, we run no analytics or advertising trackers on this site.
- Hosting logs. Our host, Vercel, keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and protect the site.
Our publishing and production tools (YouTube API Services)
Home DIY Dan uses two private apps on its own computer: CompanyOS Social Interaction (Meta) and Company OS Media (Google/YouTube). Only Home DIY Dan uses them.
- Publishing. Both apps upload and schedule Home DIY Dan's own videos on its Facebook Page, Instagram account and YouTube channel.
- Our own channel's numbers. Company OS Media uses YouTube API Services to read the Home DIY Dan channel's own video statistics and analytics (for example views and watch time), with read-only access the channel owner granted.
- Public comments on our videos. Company OS Media uses YouTube API Services to read the public comments posted on Home DIY Dan's own YouTube videos: the comment and reply text, the commenter's public display name and channel ID, and when it was posted. We use them to answer viewer questions and plan better videos. The app does not post, reply to, edit or moderate comments.
- How long we keep comments. Our copy is refreshed at least every 7 days, and anything not refreshed is deleted within 30 days. Comments deleted on YouTube are removed from our copy at the next refresh. If we summarise comments into topics for our own planning, that summary is our own analysis, not YouTube data, and it never infers personal characteristics such as age, race or health.
- Sharing. This information stays with Home DIY Dan's own production work. We do not sell it or share it with anyone else. Access keys are stored encrypted on Home DIY Dan's computer.
- Creator tools. We also use vidIQ, a creator analytics service connected to our YouTube channel, under vidIQ's own privacy policy.
By watching or commenting on YouTube you are bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Anyone who has authorised an app to use their Google account can remove that access at Google security settings.
What we never do
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for anything beyond the purposes above.
Deleting your data
To stop emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email. To have your email address, our copy of your YouTube comments, or any other information deleted, email danbelair4@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my data” (for comments, include your YouTube channel name or link). We delete YouTube data within 7 days and anything else within 30 days, and confirm by email. Deleting our copy does not remove your comment from YouTube; you can delete it on YouTube yourself.
